Sea Turtles

Sea Turtles

Intro

I would tell you a joke but there is no time for joking around now,
our sea turtles are dying because of us. Sea turtles have to get
straws pulled out of their nose, they have to starve because
the plastic inside of them is strangling them (here's a YouTube
example) (YouTube). I am going to tell you about sea turtles
and their population, what they look like and why they are dying.

How many Turtles die each year from Plastic and how we can fix this?

The estimate of how many sea turtles are dying each year is
over 4,600. There are 7 species of turtles, all sea turtles over
the world are almost extinct especially the yangtze giant
softshell turtle, there are only three left in the world.
We can fix the population of sea turtles dropping by using
paper bags instead of plastic bags and instead of using plastic
straw we can use paper straws.

How they are dying

Cruel people slaughter the sea turtles for their eggs,
shells and skin just for money. They also kill them for their
meat to use for bait. When fishermen and commercial fishers
are fishing they often get lots of sea turtles caught up in their
net, dead. Over 250,000 are captured each year by fishermen.
When we put our plastic in the bin that goes straight to the
landfill allowing the wind to pick it up and blow into sea,
then the sea turtles think its a jellyfish and eats it.

What turtles look like?

All turtles have a very glossy rock hard shell.
They have yellowy, orange stripes or spotted skin.
Its small head with beady eyes bulging out of its shell when
its about to eat. When it is scared or if it is tired it will merge
its head back into its shell in a hurry.

Conclusion

To conclude I have told you about how many turtles are left
in the world, why they are dying and where they live.
Turtles are kind natured and almost extinct. I say we stop
using plastic and start saving the turtles.
