Netball Report

Netball Report

INTRO

Come on you can do this, you can get that goal, YESSSSSSSSS! Finally they got a goal. If you like playing
sports I would recommend this is a great sport for you, this sport is called netball. I am going to tell you about the
position and each players role. I will inform you how to play the game and finally all about our beloved Silver Ferns
and their success as a team.

Positions And What They Do

There are many positions to play in netball, there is Goal keeper, Goal Shooter, Wing Attack, Wing Defence, Goal
Attack, Goal Defence and last but not least Centre. Centre is allowed everywhere on the court just not in the half
circles. Look at the image down below to see where the starting positions are. Goal Keeper has to try and stop the
Goal Shooter on the other team from getting the ball into the hoop allowing the other team to get a point.
Goal Shoot simply has to try and get the ball in the hoop so they get a goal. Centre is the main player, they start in
the middle of the court and when the whistle blows, centre will then jump into the circle and pass to either Wing
Attack or Goal Attack. But if they’re not free because the other player is defending, you look behind you and pass
\to Goal Defence or Wing Defence, and they will try and get the ball down to the goal and get a point.

How To Play

To start this game the two team captains from each team will go head to head in a $2 flipping coin challenge or
Rock, Paper, Scissors. The captain that wins one of the rounds gets to choose ball or goal. It is always advisable
to choose the ball. There are many ways to lose the ball and many ways to get the ball back. If you are holding
the ball for over 3 seconds it’s hand over to the other team. 3 seconds may seem like a very short time but when
you’re playing on the court it is actually quite a long time. Also if the other player has the ball and you’re defending
the player you have to be three feet away otherwise you will be called up for obstruction.
That means when that player is about to pass you have to stand next to them and not defend, but as soon as
they pass you can keep playing. Lastly you can’t touch the person with the ball or you will be called up for contact
and you do the same thing as you do for obstruction.

NZ Silver Ferns Netball

Netball is a very popular sport after Rugby In New Zealand. The Silver Ferns are our New Zealand netball team.
This year in the Commonwealth games the Silver Ferns came 4th. It was the first time they had ever not come a
place for over 30 years. This year they got 2 golds and 3 silvers. But for the World Cup, they got  4 golds, 8 silver,
and 1 bronze. So if you are recommending to play netball, and if you train hard, maybe when you’re older you can
play with the Silver Ferns and be famous.

Conclusion

To conclude, I have told you all about how to play netball, what the positions are and some of the rules.  I
have also told you about our very famous Silver Fern netball team. This is a very fun and energetic game. If you
are a fast runner I think you should try and find a Netball team near you and try out different positions.
